Personalized related queries for search segments

This Microsoft patent describes a system and method for personalizing “quick answer” search results by leveraging a user’s query history and the query histories of other users. The system builds a query database by collecting past queries, classifying each into a “quick answer segment” (such as health, sports, finance, etc.) using a trained machine learning classifier, and associating each query with a user ID. When a user submits a new query, the system identifies the quick answer segment of that query, retrieves the user’s prior queries within the same segment, and also pulls in relevant queries from other users. A ranked and filtered subset of these personalized query suggestions is then displayed alongside the quick answers on the search results page, creating a more tailored and useful search experience.
