This Google patent describes a system that enhances traditional search engines with a “generative companion” feature that maintains contextual awareness across multiple search queries. The technology creates a stateful chat experience where search responses aren’t limited to the current query but consider the user’s entire search journey, previous interactions, and contextual information. This approach helps reduce inaccuracies, prevents over/under-specified responses, and guides the user through their search session with more personalized, relevant results.

This patent could be the foundational patent for the Google AI Mode.

Do you think trust links will heighten the perceived reliability of a statement compared to stating the source and evidence directly in the content explicitly (e.g. study details that substantiate the claim)? Obviously both options are better than just stating claims. Wonder if this really is a something that should be done or if it’s just a capability that is there if needed.

I would not expect this. It is mor about Chunk Relevance I would say. Backlinks help to be treated as a reiable source. Choosing the chunk or passage is more relevance orientated
